Amazon is not going to take Kobo and B&N’s new threats lying down. No, sir. Just when Kobo released its new E Ink Pearl touch eReader for $130 and B&N announced its new E Ink Pearl Nook device for $139 that also swanks 2 months battery life, Amazon has released the Kindle 3G with Special Offers for a discounted price of $164 ($25 less than the original cost).
As you already know, the $114 Kindle with Special Offers is the current bestseller amongst Amazon’s Kindle family. It isn’t exactly surprising to see the 3G version with special offers to be the next in line at that price. Nook and Kobo offer good deals with their new devices but 3G is 3G.
People don’t mind watching ads and getting special offers if they get a cheaper Kindle in the deal. As most of the special offers appeal to readers, they’re actually a plus. Take for example the special offers that will be available in coming weeks:
- $10 for a $20 Amazon.com Gift Car (just in time for Father’s Day)
- Up to $500 savings off Amazon’s prices on HDTVs with a unique 20% discount on 200 HDTVs from brands including Sony, Panasonic, LG, and VIZIO
- $1 for a Kindle book, choose from thousands of books including Water for Elephants and the Hunger Games trilogy
- Spend $10 on Kindle books and get a free $10 Amazon.com Gift Card
“Kindle is the bestselling e-reader in the world.
