Amazon Stocking up ASUS Eee Pad Transformer; Android 3.1 Brings PS3 and Xbox 360 Connectivity

by Mies Larsen on June 2, 2011

Update: Quick, quick. Amazon has listed the Eee Pad Transformer in stock and the device is available for $399.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer units have been spotted on Amazon by our Eagle-eyed readers. Unfortunately, the listing didn’t last long and disappeared soon enough. The listing did mention that it may take 1-2 days to process, so this is probably a sign of an imminent arrival. If you are too eager to wait more, you’ll be glad to know retailers like Target, DataVision are offering the tablet at a premium; you’ll have to fork out an additional $50. Either way, this is a great time to get your first dose of Honeycomb.

Meanwhile, here’s some news that will make you want the Honeycomb tab even more. The Android 3.1 update, expected to hit ASUS Eee Pad Transformer later this week, is bringing more than the much awaited Flash support for Adobe Flash Player 10.2, customizable widgets, Bluetooth support, USB host support, access to Movies rental service on Android Market, etc. According to ASUS UK, post the update you can wire your XBOX 360 or PS3 game console to the tab and play awesome games on a big screen via the tab’s HDMI out capability.

Of course, it would be great if the consoles were supported via Bluetooth but hey, this is a great start. Other technicalities can be worked out once the Android 3.1 update rolls out across the states. For those of you who’d rather not wait for the Android 3.1 update to reach them, Android Police have got their hands on a leaked version of the update for the Eee Pad Transformer. Android 3.1 also enables a firmware update for the ASUS tab that brings a new power saving mode and some bug fixes.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is still not easy to get hold of in the United States though stocks have reportedly gone up. If you bag a tab from Amazon, keep us posted on your experience.

The tablet’s gaming prowess with XBOX 360 and PS3 controls is awesome. The perfect gaming experience in 1280×800 true HD format, right at home. Wow. Now that’s something.

Ijust got 3.1 loaded and now I’m wondering if the charging /USB dongle works as a USB host? The docking stations are more MIA than the tablets.
