Android Market Gets eBooks

by suraj on February 25, 2011

The browser based Android Market has been getting a lot of new additions lately. The latest is digital books. Android has tied in with Google eBooks to offer Android users a selection of eBooks that can be conveniently purchased and will sync across your Google Editions accounts on multiple devices.

The eBooks section includes twenty categories and you can filter selections by new arrivals, top selling, and top free. A large slide show splash at the top of the page displays some of the popular titles – top rated, new and noteworthy, bestselling or a book club pick. The layout is a little confusing but it gets better with familiarity.

The eBooks store is not available on the mobile version of the Android Market yet but it should get there soon enough. There’s also news that movies and music will be hitting the Android shopper’s stop in the future.

Though Google is making headway gradually, it is still far behind Apple’s store that offers users the convenience of iTunes. It has been noted that App users are more likely to pay for apps than Android that’s known for open source and “free”.
