To stay in competition in the digital readers’ market, Asus is introducing its DR-900 e-reader, featuring a 9” touch screen with a resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels. Available with either 2GB or 4GB internal storage capacity, this light-weight device is 10mm thick and weighs less than 600gms. It also supports micro SD cards for extra storage space. The reader, as can most gadgets these days, can play music, and connect to internet via an in-built 802.11 b/g wireless and an optional 3G module. The few buttons present on the device are for powering it On/Off, “home” screen, volume up/down and options.
The e-reader is equipped with an accelerometer that senses the orientation and supports both portrait and landscape modes of reading. According to the manufacturer’s website, the battery takes around 2 hours to be completely charged and can last up to 10,000 page turns if the device is used only for reading. The micro USB slot of the device makes it easy to be connected to any PC for data transfer as well as charging. The DR-900 supports pdf, txt and epub formats for ebooks and mp3 format for audio files. According to the website, this e-reader is going to hit the markets around February 2011.
