ASUS’s Eee Pad Transformer is still to arrive in the United States but UK has been luckier. One UK customer has uploaded a video of the unboxing of the Android 3.0 tablet on YouTube. We get only a few seconds of the device powered on but a good idea of what the tab is going to come with.
The Eee Pad Transformer comes with a proprietary charger which isn’t exactly good news. But the device sure looked good. The slim build looked pretty sturdy with the textured back and bezel look. The user did not roll the cameras till the setup which is disappointing but thanks anyway, realparadyne.
To recap, the Eee Pad Transformer comes with Honeycomb, Tegra 2 dual core processor, 16GB internal memory, 1GB RAM, 10.1″ LED WXGA(1280×800) protected by Gorilla glass, 5mp rear camera, 1.2mp front camera, Flash support, 9.5 hours battery life, unlimited ASUS Webstorage, stereo speakers, and the usual bells and whistles. The cherry on the cake is the mobile keyboard dock that attaches to the tab. The dock includes 2 USB ports, 2 docking ports, 1 card reader, and a battery that adds 7 hours to the tab’s 9.5 hours of battery life.
If the $400 price quoted on Best Buy can be relied on, the tab will cost $400 plus $149 thrown in for the keyboard dock. In fact, for a brief period, PC Richards’ site had the standalone attachment up for $150. The cost of the tab with dock will still be $50 short of the 32GB Motorola Xoom’s cost and somewhere between the 16GB and 32GB model of the iPad 2.
If you’re keen on a Honeycomb tab, the Eee Pad Transformer is a worthy candidate to consider. Hopefully, the tab will reach the States mid-April as rumored. After seeing the tab in the hands of other customers, the wait is getting harder.
