Barnes and Nobles have launched the Nook kids app for the iPad, earlier available on the NookColor alone. With this app, B&N extends access to its expansive digital catalog of children’s content – including 100 new interactive kids’ books including Caps for Sale, Skippyjon Jones and Sheep in a Jeep to iPad owners.
The app has some kid friendly features and enhanced storybook options. The app can read the storybook to kids, lightening the task of a time stressed parent. With NOOK kids-only AliveTouch technology, kids can locate a favorite story and get busy with the books and their favorite characters by digitally turning pages, interacting with the text, zooming in and around graphics. There’s also a password-protected Parent’s Corner for parents to select age appropriate books for their kids. You will get two free eBooks with the download – Richard Scarry’s Colors and Elephant’s Child.
iPad owners may find the titles pricey compared to the amount they dole out for books on Apple’s store. B&N’s store, however, does have digital versions of some great paperback books that are not available on the App Store. You can’t lend these books though which is disappointing.
