Samsung and Apple are both seriously considering launches for ultra large tablets, if new reports from the Wall Street Journal and Sammobile (via Zauba) are to be believed.
Read on below the break to know more!
The Samsung tablet is expected to be a 12.2 inch slate with a 2560 x 1600 resolution, and an ARM 11 processor. In the case of the larger iPad, all that seems to be known is Apple has been looking at prototypes and screen designs for a tablet that would be marginally lower than 13 inches measured diagonally.
This is a surprising step in two ways – firstly, Apple has never been one to espouse large devices, and secondly, Samsung hasn’t ever gone north of 10.1 inch tablets, despite their scorched earth policy when it comes to hardware releases.
If the two largest tablet manufacturers in the market today were to shift their crosshairs to the hitherto non-existent market for large slabs, it would signal a distinct evolution of consumer preferences on the whole.
Smaller, cheaper tablets have started gazumping the sales of their larger counterparts in more cases than not in the recent months, so it’s hard to envisage how either of the two companies expect large ~13″ tablets to work as well as the rest of their oeuvre.
