E Ink Now Supports Colors

E Ink colorsAt last it has happened! The revolutionary display technology behind the e-readers these days by the E Ink ® Incorporation has gone to the next level. The company that makes the pearly grayscale e-paper displays for the e-readers has launched its new product named “Triton”, which, “in addition to the 16 shades of grey, can display thousands of colors” as the website claims. With the new color-enabled displays, E Ink Inc. once again dominates the display technology of existing e-reader market.

The new Triton is available in a variety of sizes from 2 inch to 10 inches. It can display 4096 colors, although it is unclear if it includes the original 16 shades of grey. Though it displays many more colors, the battery still lasts a month, the same as the original grayscale models. Moreover, the performance is up to 20% faster, whether it is taking notes, selecting a menu, or simply turning a page. However, there are concerns about readability. Though the imaging is sun-light readable, adding the new RGB color filter can reduce the sharpness and contrast, thereby a possible reduction in the resolution. Irrespective of this possible drawback, the new Triton is certainly going to be the new word in the e-reader market for sometime!
