HTC Flyer at Expansys UK Too Pricey for Its Own Good?

by Valli on May 12, 2011

Lots of us are excited about the HTC Flyer – HTC’s first Android tab. It includes a single core 1.5 GHz processor at a time when dual core tabs have become the norm, features Android 2.3 that’s behind the times as far as Android tabs are concerned … still it had something to recommend it … “it” being the magic stylus or scribe pen.

Expansys UK has the 16GB HTC Flyer sans 3G up for preorder for an unbelievable £479.99. That’s nearly $800. What’s up, HTC? Or is Expansys to blame here? And to top it, it now looks like you may have to purchase the stylus separately as an accessory. That’s going to cost you another £47.99. Someone’s getting too greedy for their own good.

HTC Flyer will release on June 1 but at the projected cost our sales prognosis is dim. For the same cost, you could get a Motorola Xoom or even the 3G iPad 2. What gives?

Just to remind you, HTC Flyer is the 7 inch Android 2.3 tab with 1GB RAM, front (5mp) and rear (1.3mp) facing camera, 32GB internal storage, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HTC Sense 3.0, etc. The highlight is the stylus that lets you do great stuff like signing documents, highlighting text, marking web pages, taking notes (in a classroom with audio recording at the same time), video, audio and typing support. Evernote integration makes sure your notes are always backed up in the cloud so there’s no chance of accidental loss. Impressive, we know. But will you pay £550 for the deal?

In case you will, you know where to go. The rest, what do you think of this new turn of events?
