Kobo has added the Reading Life feature to its eReading app on the iPad to bring in some social networking into reading books.
The app enables integration with the largest social network – Facebook. You can extract quotes from books and tell people what you’ve been reading by showcasing the information on your Facebook account. Very soon, the app will allow you send tweets through Twitter integration.
The Kobo iPad app is also getting some more gaming elements. The hugely popular check-in feature on Facebook now comes to Kobo as users can check-in to locations in books. You have the choice to publish this location on Facebook too.
Get badges and points as acknowledgement of your reading prowess – titles read, and new genres experienced. See how much time you spend on reading by getting the stats. You can also get a personalized book cover that displays the names of books you’ve finished reading.
The Reading Life feature should also make it to other platforms as combining social networking and reading makes for an exciting experience. Kobo’s Blackberry app will also have flavors of social networking with readers connecting to people reading the same book, sharing passages, and similar activities. And, this is just the start.
