The eReader from Sharper Image – Literati eReader didn’t really take off with the tech community but sold reasonably well as far as the general public goes. Retailers stocking the digital reader have cut the price drastically – from $139 to $39 – to get the device off shelves and also make space for its next version that’s expected to come out in the next few months.
Sharper Image is planning to bring in some improvements with the Literati 2 eReader. Orders have already reached suppliers and manufacturing is moving ahead. The new eReader will have a larger screen size at 7 inches with touchscreen capabilities. Google Android may be replacing the Linux OS that resided on Literati 2′s predecessor with Kobo. Sharper Image will try to retain the Kobo eBook Store integration on the new version.
A larger screen size will be a plus for readers as they use Kobo’s Android app for perusing magazines, newspapers and eBooks. With the entry of Android, the device will also be a more competitive player in the eReader market that is getting quite fierce with the advent of color touchscreens, longer battery life, Wi-Fi, 3G and improved interfaces.
