Verizon is coming up with a folio case for the Motorola Xoom that will have a Bluetooth enabled keyboard inside it to pair with the tab. It looks like ASUS Eee Pad Transformer’s smart keyboard dock is getting to some people.
The folio case will allow you to encase the tab on one side with the keyboard slotted into the other side. The results may not look as effortless as the ASUS tab’s “netbook” but this is the best you’re going to get. The case also wraps around the whole device on closing. If you’ve got the Motorola Xoom and want a keyboard for it, give this product a look-see.
No news on when the folio case reaches markets and at what price.
It’s obvious that people are really sold on the idea of a tablet with extended netbook capabilities. Look at the response the $400 Eee Pad Transformer is getting. And ASUS has been so smart with its keyboard dock accessory. By adding 2 USB slots, extra battery that adds 7 hours to the tab’s 9.5 hours charge time, and a card reader, the company makes the extra $149 you pay for the keyboard totally justified.
It was only a question of time before other tablet manufacturers caught on to the idea. Apple already has a Bluetooth keyboard dock and now Motorola’s following. ASUS’ keyboard stands apart though as it attaches to the tab via the docking port, making it look exactly like a netbook. You carry both around like a single unit.
I wonder if Motorola Xoom owners will be impressed with this new offering. They’ve already paid a fair amount for the tab. I guess it all depends on the product’s pricing.
