Amazon, a leading e-commerce company, launched its first color tablet with multi-touch facility three years ago. Since then, people were eagerly waiting for their next device to launch, which according to the experts, is a Smartphone. Well, their expectations have come true as Amazon has planned to launch its first Smartphone, the Amazon Fire. Here is all you need to know about the new device.
Why is Amazon after a Phone?
Amazon took the first step into the digital world as an online book seller. Slowly, they became a renowned retailer of books, music, movies. Now, they sell almost any products, and have developed their own app to make transactions easier than before. Such a renowned retailer does not need its own device to sell their products. Instead, the Smartphone acts as an insurance policy to Amazon. For example, if people face any problem getting the contents on a third-party device, they know where to go.
Is Amazon Fire Based on Android?
Not completely, but partially. As the Android OS from Google is open source software, anyone can do some modifications on it. Amazon took this chance, made necessary changes, and rolled out its own operating system known as Fire OS. People put their hands on this software for the first time in 2011, when Amazon launched Kindle Fire Tablet. The modified operating system will make the task of drawing attractions easier than before.
Specifications and Comparison
- Display: With a 4.7 inch display with a resolution of 1280×720, it might be a bit smaller than Samsung Galaxy S5, but fits perfectly within the hands. Moreover, the higher resolution promises to deliver crisp display that would be equally eye-soothing.
- Camera: Keeping in mind the fact that people do not want to roll out extra cash for a high-end camera, most Smartphone developers include above par cameras within their devices. Amazon Fire comes with 13 megapixel rear camera and 2.1 megapixel front camera. Though more pixels are not necessary for better image quality, Galaxy S5 has 16 megapixels, whereas, the iPhone has 8 megapixels.
- Processor: Amazon Fire sports a 2.2GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. The processor in Galaxy S5 is quad-core too. However, the A7 processor in Apple iPhone has dual-core processor.
- Memory: Fire Phone has 2 GB of Ram, which is enough for a phone with such specifications.
Where to Buy the Phone? How much will it Cost?
The Amazon Fire is exclusively on sale through various AT&T stores. While the 32GB model is priced at $199, the 64GB model will cost you around $299 with a 2 year contract. Needless to say, you can also buy a phone from Amazon in between $649 to $749, without any contract.
