If you just purchased the iPad 2 and then got worried because of rumors of an iPad 3 with Retina display coming out this year, relax. According to DigiTimes‘ sources, upstream component makers have rubbished these rumors as “wishful thinking and misreporting”.
According to the report: Sources from touch panel makers pointed out that Apple recently released its latest tablet PC plan and is asking the panel makers to provide products that are capable of supporting higher image quality than the current iPad 2 and Apple may even choose AMOLED panel or a panel that supports Full HD standard to accomplish the plan. However, since the project is still at the initial planning stage, the actual products are unlikely to appear in 2011.
Further, it’s speculated that iPad 3 will be more of an upgraded version of the iPad 2 or maybe an iPad 2 that supports a different communication format, maybe 4G. Manufacturers have not received any orders for the iPad 3 and Apple would only be hurting its own sales of the iPad 2 by coming up with the third generation iPad at this stage. So, seeing the iPad 3 in 2011 is definitely out.
This is a common occurrence with Apple products. No sooner does Apple launch a new product that rumors of its replacement start surfacing. Well, iPad 2 owners don’t have to get restive about the next iPad till the next year at least. As it is, the tablet market is diversifying and Apple is already doing great with the iPad 2 sales.
Tablets are evolving and faster, cheaper, environment-friendly technology is driving the growth. Once totally dominated by the iPad, we now have Android tabs such as the Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Eee Pad Transformer, the webOS HP TouchPad, and RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook in the tablet market now.
It’s an exciting time for customers as competition brings better prices and improved quality. Which tablet’s got your vote?
