Nokia introduced Here Auto, an embedded infotainment and connected car system, aimed at the world’s auto manufacturers. And we believe mobile giant’s new move will be latest additions to our world-class location products and services.
According to Nokia, Here Auto isn’t about better maps. Instead, it’s about bringing the best of its real-time data to route planning and navigation. The Here Auto connected car platform is comprised of an application that can be embedded to a vehicle’s navigation system, a mobile app companion and a cloud service. Any in-car navigator with the Here Auto software can offer voice-guided navigation with or without data connection, along with 2D, 3D level satelite maps. You’ll need internet access to tap into the cloud service for real-time data, including traffic and weather updates, but previously downloaded maps work fine even when you’re offline.
It will provide right map at the right time, Nokia claims. It will show Helicopter view when you are driving on a highway, zoom in view when you are in city, street level images when you are approaching the destination, company added.
One of the best aspects of a connected car is that you can also access it remotely. Its smart phone application allow you to find out where you left your car (with LiveSight) and stay in touch with all the sensors in your vehicle such as the fuel level and tire pressure. You can even lock/unlock your car or control air conditioning.
HERE is also working with partners such as Magneti Marelli and others to bring HERE Auto to the market in the coming months, Nokia said in a blog post.
