NOOK Color Gets Twitter App; Kindle Gets 4 Months Exclusive DC Comics

NOOK Color Gets Twitter App

It’s not the first app with Twitter integration on NOOK Color but it is a dedicated Twitter app for the device – Tweek by DIG, boutique software consultancy. Tweek is all about Twitter – allowing you to post updates, view and answer @ replies, write direct Twitter messages, read them, and follow trends. You can refresh the update list with a tap of a button. The list includes all the status updates followed by “RT” and “Reply” buttons.

The UI of Tweek on NOOK Color doesn’t offer options to change colors, fonts, etc. As of now, you just have a dark black and gray interface to work with. It’s a bit drab but customizations may be possible later. The exclusive application costs $0.99 and offers you all the Twitter love you’ve been missing on NOOK Color.

On the digital content side, Barnes & Noble (B&N) is taking some tough decisions to underline its position as a preferred book retailer. DC Comics has struck a deal with Amazon over the exclusive availability of digital comics on Kindle Fire and via Kindle apps on other platforms for four months. No other retailer including B&N will have access to the digital editions during this time. B&N has retaliated by removing physical copies of the comics in this list from all its B&N brick-and-mortar stores. This is in keeping with B&N’s policy of providing customers all books in both print and digital editions. If B&N can’t get the digital version, they’re not going to display the physical editions at their stores either.

Customers shouldn’t worry though because B&N still allows you to order these copies from their website. You can order at stores too but only for home delivery. “Copies will not be allowed to enter Barnes & Noble premises.” Now, that’s a direct message to DC Comics.

As the digital content and eReader marketplace gets hotter, the biggies are competing on price. After Amazon launched the new Kindle product line with the basic model selling for $79 with special offers, B&N has taken $13 off the price of the refurbished NOOK Touch, bringing it down to $99. The Android eReader is one of the best and offers extended capabilities after a root. The refurbished model comes as good as new, in a new box, with 1 year warranty and free shipping. It can be ordered from B&N.com and eBay.
