Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 overwhelmed tablet fans. Android fans and product experts played with the Google I/O limited edition Honeycomb tabs and sent in their reviews, judging it the best Honeycomb tab of today with the oomph to beat the iPad 2. And then a fly falls in the soup. Some phanroid members are reporting a display defect on their I/O editions wherein the display glass juts out slightly at one or more corners of the tab.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a fantastic tablet but this problem seems to be occurring on more than select units. The display glass seems to rise from the frame it’s set in. It sets back on being pressed firmly but comes out again in another 10 minutes. The user who noted this problem at Google I/O swapped it for another but that turned out to have the same issue.
Another user at Android Community is also facing the same problem. On contacting Samsung Support (known for its high standards of customer support), the user was thanked kindly for reporting the problem but of course, they couldn’t do anything about it as the device was not available for retail in US yet and Support doesn’t have the “knowledge base or components to provide this service.” One user has got a response from Samsung US support (@888-614-0897), they are providing him free UPS shipping to evaluate the problem.
More users are reporting this problem. In fact, one user from Holland is facing the same issue on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v too, that’s the retail version. By pressing on the jutting glass, you feel the glue trying to hold on to it but it comes off again.
Not good. With more complaints pouring in, this doesn’t seem to be an isolated issue either. Just because the limited edition is a free pre-production release is no excuse for a hardware problem of this kind. If you’re also facing problems with your limited edition Galaxy Tab 10.1, keep us posted.
Meanwhile, with June 8 around the corner, Best Buy has the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Android 3.1 on its website with a “Coming Soon” tag. No pricing info but we know the 16GB Wi-Fi version will come at $499 and 32GB will cost you $599.
Hopefully, Samsung will give a clear statement on the current hardware problem so customers are not discouraged from purchasing the retail model.

I ama customer from the Netherlands and have the same problem. Got my galaxy tab10.1v a week ago, and since this weekend the display slightly comes up. Haven’t gone back with the device yet, but plan to do so soon!
I have one of the I/O special edition versions. I was told by someone at Google that these were all pre-production units and each “hand made”. I take that as meaning hand assembled. I wouldn’t say this is indicative of the final product that ships.
hope so…..
