Some Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Units Do a Sleeping Beauty Act

by Vail Gladu on July 13, 2011

A thread on XDA is bringing an odd problem to light on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Apparently, many users are unable to revive their tablets from sleep mode when it has been off for a while. Some of these guys bought their tabs in the US and went home overseas. Their country doesn’t have the tab yet so there’s no support there and if they want Samsung US to help, they have to pay for shipping the tab to US and back. Not a fun prospect at all besides being a pain in the neck.

The problem referred to as “Sleep of death” on XDA is literally that bad. There doesn’t seem to be a common solution that will fix the problem for all the affected users. Some users manage to solve the problem by waiting 30 seconds, some by trying a combination of buttons, some by depressing the power button for 15 seconds, while more have just given up.
With so many users affected, the problem is obviously there and it’s not a minor one either. Samsung should pay close attention here or it could see many Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 units returning to stores. With the iPad 2 still running ahead, that’s something Samsung does not need.

People that buy Android Tablets should know they are Beta Testers, Apple Haters will buy anything but Apple in hopes that Steve Jobs is crying over a few lost sells, Steve, like many other IPad Users are Laughing at the Droid Tards, Yeah Yeah I Know “Android Rules” True if they could sell Android Tablets for $29.95 or have a buy one get two free crap sale, Good Luck Droid Tards on overthrowing Apple on anything but give aways and rock bottom prices.

i dont hate apple, i think apple products are sleek & innovating, they are just are not for the more advanced user, which is why i use android, and the main reason i chose the tab 10.1 is because they seem to be following in apples footsteps with there design and so on, just without apples limitations, i highly doubt ipad users and steve jobs have anything to laugh at when talking about Android and Google, thats like saying a bmw driver is laughing at someone driving a mercedes, doesnt make sense, its the power of choice, and to be honest if my android product(s) cost more than apple, i would still be using Android. you make your choice (apple) and i make mine (android), just get used to saying “i cant do that with my device” while comparing to someone with an Android product.

There’s an easy fix. Just press and hold the power button for 15 seconds and then try again. I have a 10.1 and have experienced this. It’s not really a sleep of death, more like a sleep of coma. It takes a person without a brain coma to figure this one out… sheeze.

The problem is common and not a sleep of coma.
We pressed for more than 30 seconds with no lock.

@Kappadon, I had the first Apple iPad and the iPad2. Both were great devices. I bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 a month ago and am now selling my iPad2. My spouse, on the other hand, loves the iPad2 and prefers it over the Tab.

I mention this to let you know that not everyone who uses Android has an Apple-or-Nothing mentality. If the iPad had the Tab’s screen ratio and allowed its apps to access a file structure, I’d be more apt to keep my iPad2. Without those things though, I decided to keep the Tab. Some care about those things, others do not.
