Sony S1 and Sony S2 Tablets Show Up in More Videos and Photos

by Valli on July 7, 2011

After the intriguing promo video (part 2 of 5) we saw very recently, we now have photos and videos (courtesy: Notebook Italia and HDblog.it) showing off Sony S1 and Sony S2 tabs. When we say show off, we mean only that. While the videos and pics give us a good look at the tablets’ build, ports, reflection factor, and screen brightness, we still don’t see anything amazing running on the devices. One video does bring up the Playstation Suite on the S1 but that’s all.

Sony S1 is Sony’s 9.4inch tablet that is built in a folded magazine style and Sony S2 is the clamshell shaped tablet with 5.5inch dual screens. The specs are similar to what we’re seeing on most Honeycomb tabs today – 1GB RAM, 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual cores, dual cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. though Sony has added a few performance tweaks with its own technology. The tabs will also feature on-board connections to Sony-sponsored digital content such as Qriocity for music and will be PlayStation certified.

Notebook Italia has uploaded a hands-on video that gives us a good look at Sony S1. PlayStation Suite comes up on the screen and looks fairly good on the 9.4inch screen. Head there for more photos. Another hands-on video from HDBlog.it shows off the viewing angles on both S1 and S2. And yet another video, this one is shot in broad daylight.

Apart from the obvious, we note Sony S1′s glossy screen and bezel is quite a fingerprint catcher. That doesn’t take away from this device particularly as most tabs (including iPad 2) are guilty of the same. Sony S2 fares better because of the way it’s built.

Excitement levels are slowly creeping up for Sony S1 and S2. We have our fingers crossed for a September release.

It’s running Android, so unfortunately I’m gonna have to pass on this one (Android is way too laggy).
