Successor to the Toshiba Thrive Tablet Could be Called Excite

by Vail Gladu on August 31, 2011

We’ve been hearing of a follow up of Toshiba Thrive from the manufacturer and whispers of an ultra-thin sleek new tablet that also manages to house a full USB port are filtering in. FCC sightings too point to a brand new Toshiba tablet that may be named “Excite” and we’re thinking we’re talking of one and the same device. A super thin tablet called Toshiba Excite with a USB port. Awesome.

With IFA, Berlin just two days away, details of new devices that could be unveiled there are coming in. One of these will be Toshiba Excite (till we know for sure, that’s what we’re sticking with). I guess NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 dual core processor is a given on the tablet. Maybe we’ll see LTE as a new connectivity option apart from WiFi and 3G?

Toshiba has been purchasing domain names along the “Excite” line including “excitetablet.com,” “toshibaexcite.com,” and “thetoshibaexcite.com,” all of which redirect you to a Toshiba site that will display details of the tablet, very soon hopefully. Notebook Italia has got its hands on a leaked photo of the new Toshiba tablet with on-screen buttons, a microUSB port (we’re going to hold out for the full USB till the tab is revealed at IFA), HDMI output, headphone jack, front camera (rear camera should also exist), and very possibly Android 3.2.

IFA promises some exciting new tablet and devices. We’re also expecting Samsung to unveil its 7.7inch Samsung Galaxy Tab and announce the release of Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. More manufacturers, more tabs make for an interesting mix.
