TELUS drops Blackberry PlayBook prices to $149.99 beginning Feb 3 -9

by Anuradha Shukla on February 3, 2012

Blackberry PlaybookIn what appears to be the greatest bargain-sale for a PlayBook tablet, TELUS, has announced a week-long sale at just $149.99 for 16GB, 32GB as well as the 64GB.

For those looking to buy a good tablet, then this is a chance that should not be missed. TELUS has announced that starting FEB 3, BlackBerry’s PlayBook 16GB and 32 GB will cost only $199.99 at their outlets until stocks last. While there appears to be some uncertainty on whether 64GB will sell at the discounted price or persist with $299.99.

This is considered to be a good sale as RIM has already announced Feb 17th as the day it will update the PlayBook OS 2.0. The new version will finally bring the much-awaited features, which will make the tablet a true performer.

The new version will include- Calendar, Contacts, Email and some noticeable tweaks to the virtual keyboard, sharing via Bluetooth, apps and movie rentals. Give the great price-point that the PlayBook will be available at and the OS update will prove to be bonus.

Though some believe that the price-drop is seen only at TELUS, while Amazon continues to sell at $225.99, Future Shop and Stapes, Wal-marts, BB at other prices, Rogers sells at $499. TELUS strategy is to provide an entry point for consumers to buy from them, opinion most users.

The down-side of course is that there is no network and has only a WiFi. The update and newer synchronizing features it will bring will definitely work to its favor. The Bluetooth bridge along with calendar, contacts and email will ensure, the high user-experience one enjoys on a Blackberry is extended to the tablet form factor as well.

IF you are in the market for an iPad alternative, then this is surely the tablet to purchase. Another great news is that Android developers will repackage their apps before Feb 6 for shipment along with the new OS 2.0.

I agree a 100%, but they will sell you as many as you want at regular price.
