Yesterday’s Apple iOS 6 launch has hogged headlines in recent weeks. It goes without saying that the iPad, for all its merits, doesn’t suit everyone’s needs – either in terms of unnecessary functionality, or the considerable price it retails at.
In the light of Apple taking all the limelight, it may have gone under most peoples’ radar that Amazon Inc. and Barnes & Noble’s budget tablets – the Kindle Fire and the Nook Color respectively (along with the latter’s Nook Simple Touch e-Reader) have had their prices slashed for a limited period.
The Amazon Kindle Fire for starters already had amongst the lowest prices in Android tablets (made by top notch manufacturers, of course) with its $199 price tag. Now, an offer from Amazon Local slashes that price by a further $30, making its MSRP just $169. However, hurry up as this offer will only last till the 15th of June. What you have to do is go to an Amazon Local store, pick up a free discount voucher, and redeem it as soon as possible.
Barnes and Noble is running a Fathers’ Day promotion for its Nook Color and Nook Simple Touch. Running till the 17th of June, this offer will let US customers save $20 on buying either of the Nook models. You can avail this offer either online or in one of B&N’s physical stores by the given date.
In case you plan to read books, an eReader is the best option for you, and you should look no further than the Simple Touch, as it costs only $79 for this limited period offer. The Nook Color and Kindle Fire, on the other hand, provide a passable browsing and media consumption experience that’s definitely bang for the buck.

What’s going to happen on June 15? These devices are not discounted for no reason whatsoever. There must be a new device coming out soon or else this sale would not be happening.
