Will it be iPad vs Windows 8?

Windows 8 Tablet

Now that iPad 3 or as Apple Inc, prefers to call it the new iPad is finally launched, now all focus is on the arrival of Microsoft’s Windows 8.

As rumors of its release later this year grow wildly, there is a lot of speculation on whether Windows 8 could finally prove to iPad’s bête noir considering that the OS Windows 8 will run on will be dramatically different and offer a different user experience than what the Android OS tablets, the only competitive tablets to the iPad so far, offer.

Though Android tablets do have a faithful fan segment, the non-Android OS tablets such as RIM’s PlayBook have struggled to survive in the very competitive tablet form factor segment. WebOS tablet, launched by HP could not make it beyond a few weeks and quickly ended the product with a fire sale. The low-prices of an otherwise well-built tablet drove greater sales, suggested that low-cost tablets definitely had a higher market segment. This was followed by first Amazon launching its own inexpensive Kindle Fire tablet and later by Barnes & Noble launching their own tablet.

Therefore, the lack of a good user experience by most Android OS tablets really did not help in any one of them proving to be good competition for the iPad.

Now as Microsoft Windows 8 with the stable Windows OS will continue from where the Desktop ended but come with the capabilities meant for tablets. This will imply the quality of features it will offer will be on par with or will match that of the iPad.

For a long time, with the launch of every new OS, speculation has been strife that the latest will prove to be a match for the prowess of iPad. However, almost all have failed. Now, it is time for Microsoft Windows 8 tablets too to face the music.
